Meaning

Supreme God Krishna spoke

I am Ananta among the Nāga serpents; Varuna (the god of oceans) among aquatic beings; Aryamā among the departed ancestors; and Yama, among those who dispense laws. (10:29)

Sanskrit

श्रीभगवान् उवाच

अनन्तश्चास्मि नागानां वरुणो यादसामहम् ।

पितॄणामर्यमा चास्मि यमः संयमतामहम् ॥

Word-by-word

अनन्तः च अस्मि नागानाम्, वरुणः यादसाम् अहम्,

पितॄणाम् अर्यमा च अस्मि, यमः संयमताम् अहम्।

Commentary

Ananta" is one of the names of Sheshanāga, a serpentine demigod (nāga) known as the king of all serpents. The Nārāyana form of Vishnu is often depicted as resting on Shesha, accompanied by his consort Lakshmi.
