The Yoga of the Supreme Person

पुरुषोत्तमयोग

Meaning

Supreme God Krishna spoke

This World Tree, nurtured by the three Modes of Nature, has its branches extending up and down with sense objects for their twigs. Down there in the world of humans, the rootling spread widely, binding men {to the murky material existence} according to their deeds. (15:2)

Sanskrit

श्रीभगवान् उवाच

अधश्चोर्ध्वं प्रसृतास्तस्य शाखा गुणप्रवृद्धा विषयप्रवालाः ।

अधश्च मूलान्यनुसन्ततानि कर्मानुबन्धीनि मनुष्यलोके॥

Word-by-word

अधः च ऊर्ध्वम् प्रसृताः तस्य शाखाः,

गुण-प्र-वृद्धाः, विषय-प्रवालाः; अधः च मूलानि अनु-सन्ततानि, कर्म-अनु-बन्धीनि मनुष्य-लोके।।15:2।।

Commentary

Constellations, planets, and innumerable species of beings are referred to as "branches.
