The Yoga of the Division between Divine and Demoniac Natures

दैवासुरसम्पद्विभागयोग

Meaning

Supreme God Krishna spoke

Consumed by an unquenchable thirst for carnal pleasures and sensory gratification, these individuals of demonical nature traverse the world driven by arrogance, vanity, and are intoxicated by power. They embrace erroneous ideologies and engage in impious actions. (16:10)

Sanskrit

श्रीभगवान् उवाच

काममाश्रित्य दुष्पूरं दम्भमानमदान्विताः ।

मोहाद्गृहीत्वासद्ग्राहान्प्रवर्तन्तेऽशुचिव्रताः॥

Word-by-word

कामम्-आश्रित्य दुष्पूरम्, दम्भ-मान-मद-अन्विताः,

मोहात् गृहीत्वा असत्-ग्राहान् प्र-वर्तन्ते अ-शुचि-व्रताः।

Commentary

Scriptures generally consider the consumption of narcotic drugs or intoxicating substances, engaging in gambling, prostitution, adultery, and similar activities as impious or unrighteous practices.
