Commentary
Drupada, ruler of the southern part of the ancient Pānchāl kingdom in Northern India, was the father of Draupadi. She became Arjuna's wife after he won her hand in a Swayamvara, a ceremony where suitors compete in an archery contest. However, a misunderstanding led to Draupadi becoming the shared wife of all five Pāndava brothers. This occurred because of an inadvertent direction given by Kunti, the mother of the Pāndavas, to divide the "award of victory" equally among her sons, not realizing it was a woman. Despite the complex situation, the Pāndavas felt bound by duty (Dharma) to honor their mother's words, leading to this intriguing and captivating tale found in the epic Mahābhārata.
