Supreme God Krishna spoke
Among these three attributes, SattvaGuna, being the purest, illuminates and is devoid of sin, but it binds a person through attachment to happiness and knowledge, O Sinless Arjuna. (14:6)

तत्र सत्त्वं निर्मलत्वात्प्रकाशकमनामयम् ।
सुखसङ्गेन बध्नाति ज्ञानसङ्गेन चानघ॥

तत्र सत्त्वम् निर्मलत्वात् प्रकाशकम्, अन्-आमयम्,
सुख-सङ्गेन बध्नाति, ज्ञान-सङ्गेन च, अन्-अघ!
Commentary
It is immaterial if the fetter is made of gold, silver, or iron. They all chain us, bind us. SattvaGuna, the Noble Mode of Nature, is like golden shackles. It also binds to the world. That is why God asks us to rise above all the three Gunas of Nature. In the Bhāgawata Purāna, the marks of SattvaGuna are given in greater detail. Mind-control (शम), control of the senses (दम), tolerance (तितिक्षा), prudence (विवेक), penance (तप), truth (सत्य), mercy (दया), memory (स्मृति), contentment (संतोष), renunciation (त्याग), reluctance toward sense-indulgences (विषय-विराग), reverence (श्रद्धा), shame (लज्जा - shame in sinning) etc. are some of the effects of SattvaGuna (verse 2, Ch. 25, Eleventh Skandha, Bhāgawata Purāna.)
