Supreme God Krishna spoke
O, Dhananjaya! Hear now the three-fold distinction of intellect and holding-power of mind based on the Modes of Nature, to be delineated comprehensively and separately. (18:29)

श्रीभगवान् उवाच
बुद्धेर्भेदं धृतेश्चैव गुणतस्त्रिविधं श्रृणु ।
प्रोच्यमानमशेषेण पृथक्त्वेन धनञ्जय॥
