Meaning

Supreme God Krishna spoke

The ephemeral never truly exists, while the eternal remains untouched by time. Those who have glimpsed the Truth understand the essence of both. (2:16)

Sanskrit

श्रीभगवान् उवाच

नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सतः ।

उभयोरपि दृष्टोऽन्तस्त्वनयोस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः ॥

Word-by-word

न असतः विद्यते भावः, न अभावः विद्यते सतः,

उभयोः अपि दृष्टः अन्तः तु अनयोः तत्त्व-दर्शिभिः।

Commentary

The body is ephemeral while the soul eternal. But, does the body not exist because it is "ephemeral," as the verse says?
